‘NOT MY OWN WILL, BUT THINE BE DONE’
|
This was the heart cry of Jesus all the while He was on earth. He had the ability to ‘do His own thing’, but He constantly chose to do what His Father wanted Him to do. Why do you think He did that? Was it just because He was being obedient? He was showing us how to live - showing us the way to total Victory and total Blessing - but for Jesus, if He had not done His Father’s Will, you and I would not have the wonderful Salvation that God has provided for us!
In John 6:35-38 we read, “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life; he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.” That was the whole reason for Jesus being here - to do the Father’s Will and get back what Satan had stolen.
Why are we here? Look at Revelation 4:11, “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” We are here to give pleasure to Almighty God! Like an earthly father gets pleasure when his children spend time with him, when they do what he says, when they let him give to them, and when they ‘make it’ in life, so our Heavenly Father gets pleasure when we spend time with Him, believing and acting on what He has said and receive from Him, and when we always triumph in EVERY situation (2 Corinthians 2:14).
Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” We must put our faith and trust in Him, and believe that He is a Rewarder, but notice the condition - He is a Rewarder of them that “diligently seek him.” Do we diligently seek Him?
Imagine how an earthly father would feel if his child didn’t want to spend time with him, but only came for what he could give him! God is showing us a principle here. ‘I can’t give to you if you don’t diligently seek Me, because I have given you a free will - I won’t force My provision upon you.’
We are here on this earth to bring pleasure to our Heavenly Father, and do His Will continuing the Ministry of Jesus as His Body on the earth. Let’s ‘love on Him’, putting our complete faith and trust in Him, letting Him look after EVERY situation, refusing to worry, and doing His Will - then watch your life turn around!
